Our varsity basketball team had an exciting year. We played a lot of close ball games. With our boys winning some and losing some. Outstanding play by several players should be recognized. Tommy Parker blocked 158 shots for the season and scored and rebounded well. Mike Pulliam averages 7.5 assists per game and was our ball holder and also carried a large share of the scoring. Cecil Floyd led the team in scoring and along with Brad Yates provided our team with excellent outside shooting. Throughout the year Richard Lambert was a steady scorer and led our team in rebounding. Our season was topped off with an invitation to play in the state Christian School Tournament. Our team finished fourth and really played well.
Allan Edgar has turned over the coaching reins to Charlie Williams, a Liberty Baptist College graduate.
Timberlake's top scorer last season, Brian Stanford, has transferred to Lynchburg Christian Academy, but Williams inherits four returnees from last year's 8-12 squad.
They are Brad Yates, Mike Pulliam, Tommy Parker and Phil Lachniet. Newcomers include Richard Lambert, Cecil Floyd, John Moore and Greg Wilson. Floyd is a senior who didn't play last season.
TCS has medium height, “but we will not be a great scoring team,” said Williams, a Brookville High grad. The key to success, he said, will be enthusiasm, team unity and hard work on defense.
