What is stat-gap?

Some seasons in this archive are missing newspaper coverage for one or more games — either the game was never covered in print, or the surviving clipping reports only the final score with no individual player statistics.

stat-gap is a labeled statistical estimate, applied only when requested by the site admin and only once a season has enough real, documented games to make the sample meaningful. For each player with real per-game stats on file, it takes that player's own established per-game averages — computed strictly from their real, documented games — and projects those same averages onto the season's missing games, one game's worth of estimated production per missing game.

Totals and averages here may therefore include stat-gap's projected production layered on top of real, documented numbers. stat-gap never invents an individual game — only a season-total projection, clearly marked wherever it's been applied.

A player's totals may be manually adjusted based on records existing outside of newspaper research.
