Varsity Basketball.
The 1987-88 season will always be remembered at TCS. The Varsity Boys Basketball team finished with a losing record, 9-13 overall and 5-9 in the VIC, but a few of their wins were special enough that they’re still talked about today. The Tornadoes made school history with a 60-49 win over crosstown rival LCA — Timberlake had never beaten them before.
Led by leading scorers Greg Pulliam and Joe Guill, both of whom earned Honorable Mention in the VIC, TCS also set a record by leading the area in three-point shooting, making 96 of 295 attempts on the season. While the win over LCA was the highlight of the year, a last-second shot by Greg Pulliam to defeat Berean 72-71 was another high moment for the Tornadoes.
The team also felt the loss of Coach Rodney Kane, who was missed by everyone. Although the record didn’t reflect a winning season, the team felt they had accomplished things never done before in school history.
