The '04-'05 season saw many changes to the face of basketball at Timberlake. After more than 20 years of service and coaching, Charlie Williams stepped down and passed on his clipboard to two of his former players, Jason Spear and Wyatt Craig. This reunited the coaches with their JV team from 2002 that was one of the most successful teams in TCS sports history. That team went 12-2 in the VIC and won both the South division championship and the VIC championship, both of which accomplishments were firsts for any team in Timberlake history.. Varsity would prove to require a great deal of adjustments for both the players and coaches. Not only were the Tornadoes faced with the task of replacing 4 starters from the previous year, they were challenged with replacing the #1 scorer and rebounder in TCS history in Keith Rogers. And as if these challenges were not enough, Colby Heckman suffered a knee injury in the last game of the soccer season that would cause him to miss the first 12 games of the season.

Nevertheless, TCS opened their season in fine fashion at home versus Roanoke Valley Christian. Jon Morgan started out his sophomore campaign with a bang as he poured in a career-high 37 points. The Tornadoes came out strong in their first game scoring 39 points in the first half. As the fourth quarter wore down, the Tornadoes would discover their kryptonite that would haunt them throughout the season, turnovers. RVCS made a late charge off of those turnovers and erased a double digit deficit. The Eagles would force overtime, but TCS regained the lead and held on for a tough victory. TCS learned in that game that Jon Morgan was ready and willing to take on the scoring role for his team.

A few weeks later, TCS traveled to Farmville where they were able to win the Fuqua Invitational Tournament. Chris Thomas had his breakout game of the season in the tournament scoring 23 points in a contest where the defense attempted a box-and-1 to slow down Morgan. Thomas, along with Mark Henry, was named to the All-Tournament team and Jon Morgan was named tournament MVP. TCS participated in 10 tournament games away from home in the season. At the Bob Jones Invitational in South Carolina, the Tornadoes finished 3rd in the 8-team tourney as Colby Heckman and Jon Morgan were named to the All-Tournament team. TCS would see glimpses of their best form with Heckman and Morgan both having 20-point games throughout the tournament.

With fives games left in the season the Tornadoes would start to hit on all cylinders. Utilizing a faster pace, Timberlake was able to limit their turnovers and increase their number of field goal attempts. After averaging 22 turnovers per loss, TCS would commit only 12 in a game that presented many opportunities but yielded no results as the Tornadoes lost to LCA. It was a sign of good things to come however as they would go on to win 3 out the remaining 4 games.

The highlight of this run would come when the Tigers of Hargrave Military Academy came to town. Holding 2nd place in the VIC in their grasp, Hargrave came looking to repeat their performance from earlier in the season. TCS had different plans in mind as they handled the pressure and speed of Hargrave with good passing and timely shooting. The Tornadoes would find themselves down 25-19 midway through the second quarter before regrouping and responding with an 8-0 run. Taking a 4 point lead into the locker room at half-time, Timberlake would never relinquish their lead. The win would be the biggest win of the season. TCS contined their strong play against an LCA team that had controlled both of the previous two meetings with relative ease. Highlighted by the dazzling jump-shooting of Jon Morgan and Colby Heckman, Timberlake would hang in the game until the very end. TCS was down 2 with 1:30 remaining, but could not come up with a key defensive rebound as the Bulldogs would start to seize control of the game. Morgan and Heckman would provide their best combo performance of the season as they scored 25 and 24 points respectively.

The Tornadoes season came to an end in Danville as they beat Westover for the second time in the season. TCS finished the season 11-17, 6th place in the VIC, and 5-9 in conference play by defeating Hargrave and sweeping Westover and RVCS. It was the end of an era for the 4 seniors Daniel Bost, Aaron Smith, Mark Henry, and Nathan Sexton, who were all members of the JV team two years ago that had such a magical run. That team finished the season on an 8 game winning streak. This team finished winning 3 out of their last 4, and there is reason to believe that Timberlake can continue this trend in the season to come.
