The Tornadoes pulled off their biggest win of the season by beating Hargrave in a VIC contest Saturday evening. After suffering an 89-73 defeat at the hands of the Tigers in December, TCS came out determined to keep the game at their pace. The undersized Tornadoes held their own on the boards and were able to produce 14 steals in the game. After Hargrave built their lead to its largest of the game at 25-19, TCS responded with an 8-0 run, capped by Jon Morgan's 3-pointer, to gain a lead they would never relinquish. TCS maintained their poise under the relentless pressure of the Tigers, and was able to extend their lead to 10 points heading into the fourth quarter. In the final period, TCS hit a cold spell as Hargrave made a rally. TCS missed 4 free throws and committed turnovers that allowed Hargrave to pull within one with less than two minutes remaining. Jon Morgan capped a spectacular evening (29 points, 6 rebounds, 6 steals) with two consecutive driving layups that stretched the lead back to 5. Colby Heckman turned in a solid all-around performance with 15 points, 10 rebounds, and 5 assists but fouled out late in the 4th. Daniel Bost stepped up to hit two key free throws with 20.9 seconds remaining that ultimately sealed the game. Chris Thomas broke out of a shooting slump by hitting three 3 pointers as he scored 12 points in the game. The win assures TCS of finishing at least 6th in the VIC and gives them a chance to finish as high as 5th and qualify for the VIC tournament. The game was the last home game for TCS and its seniors Daniel Bost, Mark Henry, Nathan Sexton, and Aaron Smith, all of which made contributions to the victory.
