On Saturday, Timberlake faced Grace Christian in the first Christian School Invitation championship game. It was the first time TCS had faced Grace in more than four years. The Tornadoes did not waste any time, jumping out to a 13 point lead midway through the first quarter. Colby Heckman started TCS off with a 3 pointer and Jon Morgan and Chris Thomas also hit threes to help TCS stretch its lead. But the second quarter saw Grace switch to a physical man defense, and the Tornodoes had a hard time adjusting. TCS was only able to muster 4 points in a quarter that saw 8 missed free throws and several missed layups. Grace used that defense to take a one point lead into halftime.

During halftime, half of Lynchburg city and surrounding areas lost power. This caused a 40 minute delay to the start of the second half. People panicked and ran amuck as players called loved ones to make sure they were okay. Through the drama and hysterics both teams came to appreciate one another a little more as they huddled in a circle to stay warm. When power was restored, Grace reestablished their physical defense as TCS continued to struggle on offense. Grace carried a 7 point lead into the 4th quarter and things looked grim for the Tornadoes.

With 3:25 remaining and TCS trailing 50-43, Jon Morgan was victim of a horrendous charge call that robbed TCS of 2 points and gave Morgan his 4th foul. The call was so obscene that it caused the head coach to have a convulsion on the sidelines. Following his lead, Luke Cunningham blurted out obscenities that led to a technical foul on the TCS bench. Grace capitalized with 2 free throws to take a commanding 52-43 point lead with just a little over three minutes remaning. Timberlake decided it wouldnt get mad, it would get even. Chris Newsome anchored an aggressive 3-2 defense that started to cause Grace major problems. On the ensuing possession TCS forced a turnover and Colby Heckman finished a fast break layup and was fouled.

The following possession for Grace led to another turnover that Jon Morgan scored on to cut the lead from 9 to 4. Heckman would score again on a fast break caused by a turnover and Jonathan Phelps put back a missed three pointer to knot the game up at 52. TCS was able to get another stop on defense and Heckman made a free throw to give them their first lead since midway through the second quarter. Timberlake would go on to make 7 more free throws as Grace was only able to score two points in that stretch.

After the technical foul, TCS went on a 17-2 run to close the game in amazing fashion! Jon Morgan was named to the all-tournament team and Colby Heckman was named tournament MVP. The two guards combined to score 83 points in the two games. Jonathan Phelps received honorable mention for his role in the closing minutes of the game. Along with his put-back, he took a charge that ultimately eliminated Grace's best player, and he hit two free throws with 29 seconds remaining that iced the game.
