Virginia Episcopal School used a stifling defensive effort in the third quarter to break open a close game and beat host Timberlake Christian 60-44 in a semifinal of the Holiday Classic.
Mitchell Brown and Zach Mulligan each scored 13 points for VES, with Brown adding nine assists and five steals. Jon Morgan led the Tornadoes (1-1) with a game-high 16 points, and Colby Heckman added 14.
VES advanced to face defending state champion Holy Cross in that night's championship game; Timberlake moved on to the consolation game against LCA.
